Lincoln Vulcans swimmers are celebrating after a very successful performance at the East Midland Regional Swimming Championships.
The competition is held over 3 weekends and at the first weekend in Corby International Pool held the 13 & under competition as well as the Open Age Group Distance events. The club achieved a great 3 Silver & 2 Bronze medals.
The medallists were Megan Speirs (15) Silver in the 1500 Freestyle, Holly Marshall (13) Bronze in the 200 Individual Medley and finally Rachel Webb (12) coming home with 2 Silvers in the 100 and 200 Backstroke and the Bronze in the 200 Freestyle. All the girls had placed higher than expected with some fantastic PB’s.
Finalists were
Holly Marshall (400 Free, 100 Free, 400 IM, 200 Free, 50 Free, 200 Free)
Rachel Webb (400 Free, 200 IM, 100 Free, 50 Back)
Lyndon Wilson (12) (50 Back, 50 Free, 200 Back, 100 Back)
Gala 2 in Ponds Forge Sheffield again included the distance events combined with 50m sprints for the 14 years + age groups. Again the club’s swimmers put in some fantastic performances.
Again Megan and Rachel were in the medals with both girls winning a Bronze in the 800 Freestyle with massive new PB’s.
This time 14-year-old Laura Dickinson, fresh from her superb performances at the World Trials in Glasgow where she became the No1 ranked 14-year-old swimmer in Britain for the 100 Butterfly, also joined the medal party. Laura came away with Gold in the 50 Butterfly and Bronze in the 50 Free as well as a finalist in the 50 breast & backstroke events.
Another finalist was Ed Bromley who smashed his 50 Butterfly PB to reach the final as well as the 50 Back.
The competition stayed in Sheffield for the last and final round with all the events for the 14 years +.
Again the club swimmers swam brilliantly as well as winning medals and reaching finalists.
First up was again Megan Speirs who continued her impressive form with another pb and a Bronze medal n the 15 years 400 Freestyle which also qualified her for the Open final later that day where she finished 7th.
Next up was Laura who led the field from the start to win Gold in the 200 Butterfly in yet another best time. A little while later Laura came 5th in the 100 Freestyle.
Joining Laura & Megan on the podium was Abi Burr who took home the Bronze in the 200 Butterfly in the Open event. Vulcans strength in this event was apparent with two other girls joining Abi in the final with Elissa Gratton coming in 8th and Katie Maloney in 9th.
Abi Burr also swam extremely well in the final of the 400 free (7th)
Day 2 again got started with Megan who produced another best time to qualify for the 400 IM final where she would finish 7th. Megan continued with best times and finals in the 200 Back (9th) and 100 Butterfly (7th).
Joining Megan in the finals were Ed Bromley in the 100 Back where he came in 9th place and again Abi Burr 200 Free (7th) and 100 Butterfly (5th).
Laura Dickinson started with coming in 7th place in the 100 Breast with yet another best time. However, Laura left the best until last with a superb best time when she dominated the rest of the field in the 100 Butterfly in winning her 3rd Gold of the Championships.
Other swimmers who represented the club superbly at the championships were, Sophie Hart, Archie Glenn, Mia Copping, Kaitlyn Gifford, Charley Holmes, Annie Johnson, Niamh Monaghan, Adam McIntyre, Isobel Leggate, Maisie Aubrey, Emily Crookes, Rebecca Franks and Abi Burr.
Coaches Paul Hogg & Adam McIntyre were extremely pleased with how the team performed. The number of qualifiers from last year has increased but the medal count has also increased. Most pleasing was the fact that we have either won medals or made finals in all strokes, distances and age groups and this shows what a well-balanced training program we are delivering at Vulcans said the coaches.
