Lincoln Vulcans Junior League team recorded the clubs best finish since they took victory in 2012 at the Pods in Scunthorpe on Saturday 15/09/2019. With a full strength team, we knew we would be able to give the champions for the last 4 seasons Louth ‘Dolphins’ a good run for their money and so it turned out.
Vulcans started the night in style with a victory in the Girls 12/u Medley relay, Rhianna Stone made a great start in the backstroke, followed by the versatile National open water medalist Rachel Webb on the Breaststroke, Mia Copping put in an excellent 50m Fly leg to pull Vulcans well clear and then Emily Jackson finished off the job.
The next victory came from the boys 9/u team in the freestyle relay Daniel Hepplestone and Jacob Gifford made a solid start, a brave performance from Denzel Middleton, despite losing his goggles kept them in contention and Lewis Snowshall brought it home.
It wasn’t a long wait for the next win as it came in the next race with the girls 10/u Medley Relay. A dominant performance from Annabelle Wilson, Emily Webb, Evie Lilley and Sofia Wiseman gave the other teams no chance!
The first individual victory went to Emily Webb in the 10/u 50m Breaststroke, although winning by a second Emily didn’t have it all her own way and had a good battle with the Louth swimmer next door, but thanks to a strong finish Emily took victory.
Next up were back to back victories from Mia Copping and Lyndan Wilson in the 12/u 50m Fly events. Both swimmers put in a technically sublime performance to take the full 6 points.
Annabelle Wilson was on the right side of a blanket finish to win the 10/u 50m Backstroke with only 0.73 seconds separating the top 4 places.
Another set of back to back wins in the 12yr age group soon followed. Mia Copping was back in action again, this time with Archie Glen for the 50m Freestyle event. Mia never looked like coming anywhere other than first, but Archie had his work cut out. Thanks to a strong finish he took first place.
Jacob Gifford was the next winner in the 9/u 25m Backstroke event, producing a technically superb swim with a great stroke rate to finish a second clear of the competition.
The next race brought another winner, this time 10yr old Evie Lilley in the 50m Butterfly. Evie’s skill and determination shone through as she held off the Grantham swimmer to win by 0.12 seconds!
The 12/u age group produced yet another set of double victories in the 50m breaststroke. After a strong performance in the relay earlier in the night victory looked well within reach for Rachel Webb, and so it transpired as she took first place by just over half a second. Archie Glenn took another win in a race that mirrored his Freestlyle. An excellent duel with the Louth swimmer where Archie powered past in the last 10m.
The 12/u swimmers then made it 9 wins out of 10 with another pair of victories, this time in the 50m Backstroke. Lyndan Wilson made it 2/2 and so did Rachel Webb. Both were regional finalists in this event last season and looked the part as they comfortably beat the competition.
Next up was the relays again with the boys 9/u Medley team of Lewis Snowshall, Jacob Gifford, Daniel Hepplestone and Denzel Middleton leaving nothing to chance to romp home to a 14 second victory.
This was swiftly followed by the girls 10/u Freestlyle team, comprising of Annabelle Wilson, Emily Webb, Sofia Wiseman and Evie Lilley. The girls had an excellent duel with the Louth team next door to emerge victorious by just over a second.
And finally, the 12/u Girls and Boys squads made it 11 wins out of 12 with commanding victories of 7 and 3 seconds respectively. Girls: Rachel Webb, Emily Jackson, Abigail Chevis, Mia Copping. Boys: Lyndan Wilson, Evan Noorpuri, Georgi Bashford, Archie Glenn
2nd places went to: Georgi Bashford, Archie Glenn, Lyndan Wilson, Evan Noorpuri (Boys 12/u Medley Relay), Daniel Hepplestone (Boys 9/u 25m Freestyle), Archie French (Boys 10/u 50m Backstroke), Evelyn Jackson (Girls 11/u 50m Butterfly), Zara Dixon (Girls, 11/u 50m Freestyle), Evie Lilley (Girls 10/u 50m Freestyle), Annabelle Wilson, Emily Webb, Sofia Wiseman, Evie Lilley (Girls 10/u 4x25m Freestyle Relay).
