Vulcans in Battle of Bosworth

Regional Open Water Championships

6 LVSC swimmers travelled to Bosworth Water last weekend to take part in the Midlands Regional Open Water Championships.

Ollie Bitowt and Jordan Strathon (past swimmers at this event) swam in the open 5km and 2 km events respectively while newcomers Liam Noonan, Emily Walsh, Harm Dokter and Tara Haworth took to the lake for their first taste of Open Water competitive swimming in the 3km, 2 km and 1500m races.

Ollie dominated the 5 km race leading from the start, finishing in just over an hour and collecting the Open gold medal.

Liam swam a great first 3 km race maintaining overall 6-8th position throughout.

The 2 km race had a mixed field of 59 swimmers. Emily (14) was the first of the 3 LVSC swimmers to cross the finish taking 9th position in her age group in 26 minutes 10.09 seconds. She was followed by Jordan (16) in 26.27.85 and 13th position in the boys age group and Harm (15) - 26.59.42 - 17th in his age group.

Finally Tara (14) took to the lake for the 1500m and came in 6th position in her age group in a mixed field of 80 swimmers.

Despite scorching temperatures, pond weed and large carp the newcomers all enjoyed the event immensely and we will be looking for some more open water opportunities next summer season to tempt more of you to join in!
