Counties a success for Vulcans

The Lincoln Vulcans Swimming Club produced some fine performances in a number of events at the Lincolnshire County Championships. Over the duration of the competition, held in Louth, the Vulcans’ had 485 personal bests from 584 swims, achieving 92 Regional Qualifying Times and 4 Short-Course National Qualifying Times.

Fine performances from Erin Easton,11, Lauren Woods,12, and Sophie Hart,13, saw them all finish first while the final standings saw 24 of the Vulcans swimmers finish in the top 10 of their respective age-groups.

The final age-group medal tally stood at 71 Gold, 63 Silver, and 55 Bronze with 17 Gold, 16 Silver, and 14 Bronze medals being open-age, championship medals. The club managed to achieve 16 regional qualifiers, as well as head coach Michael Glossop gaining 2 regional qualifying times.

“The coaching team is extremely proud to see such big steps being taken from all areas of the club with many more swimmers edging ever closer to the next level of swimming. The skills and technique improvements are a huge step forward and it shows that if the processes are put in place in training, fast swimming is sure to follow. The future looks very promising,” he said.

15-year-old Tara Haworth, who managed to gain a short course national qualifying time in the 200m Butterfly, will be representing the Lincoln Vulcans at the British Championships next month. She has recently competed for Scotland and ranks 8th for her country in the 200 Fly, this will be her first time experiencing the competition at this level. The British Swimming Championships are to be held at the London Aquatics Centre over five days from Tuesday 14th April.
