GB call-up for Vulcan swimmer

Lincoln Vulcans swimmer Ollie Bitowt is celebrating his first GB call up for the England talent team that will compete in two rounds of the French open Water Cup at the end of the summer.
Ollie - who has been in the British Swimming Talent programme for 5 years  and has spent the last 2 years on the freestyle and long distance youth programme - received a wild card entry invitation early in July and was thrilled at the opportunity to compete.

The very same week he competed in his first Open Water championships at Bosworth Water, where he took gold in the 17/18 regional 2 km swim at the Midlands Regional Championships. Winning at Bosworth got him an entry to the National Open Water championships at Rother Valley two weeks later where he lead from the start in the 17/18 year age group in the 2 km event only to make an error at the last buoy which - once corrected - meant he had to settle for silver.
"I'm taking a short break after the Nationals but then I am Open Water training at the BEST centre in Majorca for week before joining the GB talent team for France. I will be swimming in a 2.4 km race in Sete near Montpellier on27August, then training with the team for a week at Grimaud before moving on to Redon in Brittany for the 5km race on 2 September. Open water swimming is a new venture for me and, so far, I am loving it,” said Ollie.
