Vulcans look forward to Counties

The year may just have started but the swimmers at Lincoln Vulcans have much to look forward to in the coming months.

The 2014 County Championships will be taking place through March this year and for many swimmers, this is the first path on the road to a successful swimming career and the year itself.

Lincoln Vulcans Swimming Club are delighted with the progress that their squads have made so far. Chairman Dave Hendel has commented previously on the swelling numbers of swimmers that they have seen, since the Olympics in particular. “The great thing is that these swimmers are delivering results at the meets that they attend; posting personal best times and achieving entries at higher level meets,” says Hendel.

“In 2013 we had 39 girls and 20 boys with 527 swims. This year we have 50 girls and 22 boys with 588 swims. This represents a 12% increase year on year and even more remarkable given that we have lost some of out top squad swimmers to University.”

“The best thing,” continues Hendel, “is that our swimmers don’t just see the results in the pool. The fitness that swimmers achieve from the sessions they have with our excellent team of coaches - 4 times a week for the younger squads and up to 8 times per week for the older squads, means that their cardiovascular fitness is rarely surpassed”.

“Some of our young Vulcans swimmers have absolutely dominated the Lincolnshire County Cross Country finals at Caythorpe which is a testament to the stamina they gain from the coaches at Vulcans. Out of the six runners we achieved 2 first places, a 2nd place, 4th place and 6th place who all qualified to run for Lincolnshire in the next round in Northampton next month. 3 of the children have now qualified to run in the National England Schools Race which will be run on 15th March”.
