2009 NATIONAL YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS: day three report
Today saw two freestyle events for Vulcans swimmers: the women's 200 freestyle and the men's 800 freestyle.
In the morning our girl swimmers Grace, Lauren and Mollie all swam to their entry times with Mollie and Lauren recording 1.5 and 0.5 second PBs - good solid swimming and an excellent display from our girls.
In the afternoon session the boys swims were less consistent - Charlie Bitowt started well but couldn't get to his race pace and posted a time well outside his PB. Ollie Bitowt swimming as a Senior was the next Vulcan swimmer in the water and though he improved on his entry time of 8.41 by two seconds he did not quite reach his new PB which won him the bronze medal (14 years) last week in the Age Group Championships.
He was followed by Jack Burnell and Will Jolly, both swimming in the same heat and both swimming personal best times. Will swam a very well-paced race holding 1.04 to produce a new lifetime best time of 8.26.97 - an impressive 8 second improvement over his entry time.
More swimming tomorrow.......
