2009 NATIONAL YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS: day six report
The final day of the Youth championships arrived and our swimmers were beginning to feel the effects of 6 days of competition at Ponds Forge.
The three girls - Grace, Lauren and Mollie - swam respectable 400 freestyle races each slightly off their PB by 1-2 seconds but good solid swims nonetheless for Day 6 after a busy week of racing.
Hayley Williams swam a powerful 50 free in the Open category in 27.75, a whisker off her current Long course PB of 27.69. This won her a place in tonight's semi-final for the 14/15 age category.
At last Jack Burnell took the final heat swim for Vulcans in the Mens 400 IM. However another disappointing judgement from the technical officials left Jack with a disqualification for the fly leg.
In the 14/15 years 50 FC semi-final Hayley Williams again swam a strong and courageous race to post a new PB of 27.63 but sadly missed out on a place in the final by one-hundreth of a second.
It has been a long 12 days in Sheffield - overall we have swum well with lots of PBs, finals and semi-finals and some medals too.
The statistics will follow shortly....
